Get Indexed, Get Ranked, Get Traffic
There is no doubt that website traffic is critical to your business success. And the best kind of traffic is free traffic. So where do we get free traffic? Google and other search engines.
How does free search engine traffic work?
The process works in a way that you have experienced many many times. You load up Google or another search engine. Type in something you’re looking for. And then you visit one or more of the sites that show up. Turns out that the website you visit just got free traffic from the search engine. We will be discussing here how to get website traffic to you for free.
You probably only visit a link or two from the first page of results. Actually, almost 100% of the free traffic goes to this first page of results. What’s even more amazing is the the first 3 links get more than 70% of the free traffic.
So, obviously your site needs to be in the first page of results to get free traffic from Google. And this means Google needs to “rank” you as a top 10 result. And this bring us to… What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization is a measure of how well Google and other search engines think your website matches the search terms people are typing into their search boxes. It’s a complex formula that only people working for Google know exactly. However, we do know a few things that count.
Getting indexed
First, before you can get ranked highly, Google has to know you exist. This is called getting “indexed.” What this means is that Google visits your site and records information about it in their database.
In order to get indexed, Google has to be able to find you. And the best way for Google to find you is to get inbound links from other sites. Since some of these site will already be indexed, Google will follow the links on their pages and find you.
A couple of great places to do this are in your Twitter or Facebook profiles. Because these sites are indexed multiple times every day. So any new links will be followed right away.
Gaining ranking
Once you have been indexed, you will start working on increasing your rank. Just getting indexed does you almost no good, considering that Google has billions of pages in their database.
Here’s what’s important in ranking:
- Content
- Links
- Activity
Optimized content
This is the SEO you do on your site itself. You need to make sure your content matches the search terms you’re going after. The topic of this article is clearly SEO. Google knows that not just because the words search engine optimization show up. Another reason is because there are related words, like website traffic, too.
In addition to the content on the page, other things to keep in mind are the title tags on the page, and the domain name itself. These all play a part in helping Google determine what your website is about.
Link juice
The second factor is your linking. The links to your site, as well as the sites you link to are important. With inbound links, you want to have more coming in than going out. So the number of inbound links is important.
Article spinning is a super easy way to get a bunch of inbound links. To use this technique you write articles related to the topic of your websites. Then create a bunch of different versions of it. And post unique versions to lots of websites that accept articles. And quantity is the key here – so do lots and lots.
Increasing your activity
And lastly, it’s seems clear that Google expects important pages to be actively updated. A page that was created 3 years ago and hasn’t been touched since won’t rank well. Google expects you to be updating your site regularly. You can do this with RSS feeds and news posts.
Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. So, obviously, you need to get people to visit your site on your own, too. An easy way to do this is from forums.
Create profiles on lots of forums about your site’s topic. Then become active in the forum. Always include a link back to your site. This will get your more inbound links. And it gets people to visit the site you link to.
Conclusion
All of the above is important. However, writing a bunch of different articles on the same topic. And creating a bunch of forum profiles. And visiting all the sites to post up your comments and articles takes a really long time. And you’re already too busy, so you mostly likely will never do any of it.
The good news is that there are automated software programs out there that will do this for you. So the best thing you can do is to automate this process. And then you’re sure to get it done. By taking these steps you practically ensure you’ll get free traffic from Google.
