Cabo San Lucas is becoming a sought after vacation destination, and that’s a fact. Its popularity is steadily increasing. Cabo San Lucas offers something for every vacationer, including: private secluded getaways, beachfront weddings, nightlife and activities to name a few. In this article I am going to discuss the top seven things to do in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. If you are planning a vacation to Cabo, the activities listed below are all a must do!

Diving in Sea of Cortez

Cabo San Lucas is a unique diving destination because the Sea of Cortez is located between temperate waters and tropical waters. The Sea of Cortez is one of the world’s most unique ocean environments. It is considered to be the biologically richest body of water on earth, supporting over 800 marine vertebrate species. Diving in Cabo is famous for its “sand falls”. The sand falls are actually streams of sand that fall over the underwater canyons. They create sand rivers and this is extremely interesting to see.

The nutrient rich waters make for a spectacular population of fish from small inshore fish to large schools of jack, tuna, dolphin, and “sport fish” such as Dorado and marlin. There are migratory visits from whales and hammerhead sharks. A fortunate scuba diver may also encounter manta rays, and even whale sharks in the plentiful waters of the Sea of Cortez. It is critical to the success of your dive to plan your dive at the right time. The Sea of Cortez sees good weather conditions June through November. Prior to June, the Sea of Cortez waters temperature is quite cold. If you are not interested in diving you could also snorkel. There are many diving and snorkeling tours available. Snorkeling would still allow you to see most of the inshore fish and some of the beautiful coral.

Horseback riding on the beach

Horseback riding is available for all levels of riders at several stables in the Cabo San Lucas area. There are trail rides in which you are accompanied by a guide. Trail rides can vary from a desert ride, to a beach ride, or in and about beautiful rock formations. Either way it is a great way to see much of Cabo San Lucas’ scenery. Horseback riding is also available for the whole family, with younger children riding with adults. For those of you who are horse lovers you can see pure Andalusia horses at: Cuadra San Francisco Stable.

Whale Watching

Whales pass several hundred meters off of Cabo San Lucas‘ shore every year. The best time to see whales are between January and March, when the gray whale is migrating. There are several ways to whale watch in Cabo San Lucas. There are boat tours that offer whale watching. Boats of varying size carry the hundreds of whale watchers out to see these marine mammals as they visit our peninsula in their annual migration, every year. It is not uncommon at this time for a curious whale to come close to a boat. Although no trip can guarantee whales, the odds are definitely in your favor. The smaller the boat the better your chances are of getting close.

Have a drink at Cabo San Lucas’ most famous club

The Cabo Wabo cantina is Cabo’s most famous club, owned by Sammy Hagar. If you are in town at the same time as Sammy is, you might even get to watch one of his impromptu performances. If you are not that lucky, you can still enjoy the atmosphere the Cabo Wabo has to offer and live music on most nights. The Cabo Wabo also offers a menu filled with American and Mexican food to feed your hunger.

Hike through the desert

You must be especially careful when hiking in Cabo’s desert lands. You will need twice as much drinking water as you normally would for a hike. A trek through the desert is absolutely spectacular. Desert hiking is best in the winter, with the temperature being around 70. It is possible to hike the desert in the summer but, you must go in the early morning. It is dangerous to hike alone and best to hire an experienced guide from the area, just in case you get lost. The desert offers incredible rock formations, unique vegetation and wildlife native only to this region. Hiking can be for all ages and hiking in Cabo’s desert is something that you will remember. There are also other hiking and natural history tours which include fossil fields, challenging hikes into the Sierra de la Laguna and day trips to old mining ghost towns.

Bird Sanctuary

Close to downtown San Jose Del Cabo is the San Jose Estuary and Bird Sanctuary. In the sanctuary you can find about 200 species of exotic birds which include egrets, herons and brown pelicans. You can rent a kayak to experience this sanctuary. Sunrise and sunset are the most scenic times to visit; however, if you are an avid bird watcher and want to see species and identify them, you may want to visit during daylight hours. There is also an information center to answer any of your questions. Admission is free at the San Jose Estuary and Bird Sanctuary.

Visit Lover’s beach

Lover’s Beach (also known as Playa Del Amor) is another must, but to get to this beach you’ll need some kind of boat or kayak as the beach is not accessible by land. It is possible to hire a water taxi at the marina. Lover’s Beach is surrounded by towering rock formations and is hidden behind Cabo San Lucas‘ landmark arch, El Arco at Land’s End. Be careful swimming here, the powerful waves and currents of the Pacific make swimming quite dangerous. You can view where the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez meet. Lover’s beach offers many spectacular views.

1. Acapulco is one of the best places when it comes to Mexico travel. Long thought to be the destination of the many lovers of the world, it is actually the number one spot for honeymoons in the entire world. There are a good many places that offer exciting package deals to Acapulco that include rooms, airfare and some of the best in entertainment. Little bad can be said about this romantic paradise on Earth.

2. Cabo San Lucas makes one think of the days of old. A largely untouched land, this area of Mexico travel is so exciting that one cannot even imagine. Making the finest in overall destinations is not an easy thing to do, but this site has come through in fine style. The rates are well below the average and the natives make it all the more enjoyable. The scuba diving is exciting as there are many wrecks nearby to be explored and the fishing is great at certain times of the year. Space is very limited so you will need to book well in advance.

3. Cancun is one of those places that once rested without visitors and now makes up for that with the good many tourists that flock here every year. A major player in the tourism industry, Cancun has been plagued by some big business in the recent years and it has lost a bit of its old world charm. This has done nothing to dissuade the thousands that come here every year. Be careful to plan for the hurricane season though, there is little that can be done when one strikes.

4. Cozumel is a place that many people have ignored over the years and that is good news for those that travel there. Big companies have not found this site to be very hospitable and that means that it is mainly natives that run the sites and attractions. There is a good many places where you can have lots of fun for very little.

5. Guadalajara brings to mind some of the old ruins of the past. There is many historical attractions here and the natives will be sure to please all that come in. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great all over the area.

Have you ever heard someone say, “Once, when I was in Cabo….”? Cabo San Lucas, Mexico seems to get pared down to just “Cabo” by the people who love to vacation there. It is an affectionate nickname for a little piece of a desert town at the end of the Baja California peninsula that lives up to its own hype by being full of fun in the surf and sun.

When you begin to think about what activities you might expect to find on your vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, you will invariably start with the beach and ocean. Scuba diving with manta rays has become an unusual activity that could be a once in a lifetime type of encounter. Whale watching excursions are also popular and can provide a lifetime of memories to take home. And snorkeling expeditions can be exhilarating to undertake.

But what brings most visitors to Cabo San Lucas is the sport fishing industry. Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, and many other species of fish are caught year round in the waters surrounding Cabo. Fishing boats are available for charter and can cater to any whim you may have. You can tussle with these monster fish all day and be pampered with a catered meal once you’re done hauling them in.

Combining the desert, ocean, and mountains makes the Baja peninsula a beautiful and intriguing destination and provides the backdrop for many quaint villages and towns in the area that can be explored by taking day trips. Taking a drive or joining a tour to visit towns like La Paz and Todos Santos can give you a glimpse of village life in Mexico that still exists in this technological age. Exploring old church squares and local shopping areas can be a lot of fun.

Cabo San Lucas is quickly becoming the golf capital of Mexico. It has six championship courses that are very close to each other and they all share the beauty of the area. They all have ocean views and three of them have holes right on the ocean. And while you can take advantage of these great courses now you can also look forward to more courses that are now in the planning stage. So stay tuned!

If you fall so in love with Cabo San Lucas that you want to come back every year, you might want to look into getting a timeshare. Vacation ownership is a way that travelers can purchase time at a resort that they will, in essence, own however many weeks a year are purchased. This has many advantages, such as guaranteeing your same accommodations every year, allowing you to “give” your week to friends or family if you won’t be using it, or trading your week to be used at another resort(although this usually requires you to be a member of a timeshare trading cooperative).

Cabo San Lucas has earned the reputation as a “party town” especially with the unofficial endorsement of famous rock and roller Sammy Hagar, who has adopted the town and opened up his own nightclub and restaurant there. But never fear if you don’t like the all night party scene because there is plenty to do for everyone in this great vacation destination.
