1. Acapulco is one of the best places when it comes to Mexico travel. Long thought to be the destination of the many lovers of the world, it is actually the number one spot for honeymoons in the entire world. There are a good many places that offer exciting package deals to Acapulco that include rooms, airfare and some of the best in entertainment. Little bad can be said about this romantic paradise on Earth.

2. Cabo San Lucas makes one think of the days of old. A largely untouched land, this area of Mexico travel is so exciting that one cannot even imagine. Making the finest in overall destinations is not an easy thing to do, but this site has come through in fine style. The rates are well below the average and the natives make it all the more enjoyable. The scuba diving is exciting as there are many wrecks nearby to be explored and the fishing is great at certain times of the year. Space is very limited so you will need to book well in advance.

3. Cancun is one of those places that once rested without visitors and now makes up for that with the good many tourists that flock here every year. A major player in the tourism industry, Cancun has been plagued by some big business in the recent years and it has lost a bit of its old world charm. This has done nothing to dissuade the thousands that come here every year. Be careful to plan for the hurricane season though, there is little that can be done when one strikes.

4. Cozumel is a place that many people have ignored over the years and that is good news for those that travel there. Big companies have not found this site to be very hospitable and that means that it is mainly natives that run the sites and attractions. There is a good many places where you can have lots of fun for very little.

5. Guadalajara brings to mind some of the old ruins of the past. There is many historical attractions here and the natives will be sure to please all that come in. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great all over the area.

Jutting into the Caribbean Sea, Cancun rests at the very tip of the Yucatan Peninsula on land that was commonly used as refuge for seafaring pirates. The resort town was built in the mid 1970s in close proximity to, and in some cases on top of, prized ancient Mayan ruins. The main drag is a string of beautiful Art Deco and high-rise hotels followed by a series of nightclubs ranging from exclusively posh or fantasy-like industrial to warmer more intimate discotheques with their own local groovy flavor. Regular 24 hour taxi service to and from anywhere in town makes choosing your accommodations almost as simple as booking your flight on cFares!

Ruins

Although simple mention of Cancun alone evokes thoughts of extravagant parties and spring break benders, make sure to take it easy enough so that you may enjoy a day trip to the surrounding Mayan ruins with a clear mind and an appreciative attitude. The most famous ruins are at Chichen Itza in the center of the peninsula. Inhabited from 445 BC to 1204 AD, then mysteriously abandoned, these ruins are centered about a pyramid with steps that culminate at giant serpent heads. Visit during either of the equinoxes and the shadows will appear as though a giant snake is descending the pyramid. Closer to Cancun, Tulum is also a popular Mayan destination that overlooks the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. The Temple of the Frescoes has an ornamentally painted interior and the Temple of the Descending God is adorned with remarkably intricate bas-relief carvings. There are at least ten other major archeological sites accessible from Cancun by tour operators, and a few recently discovered minor ruins in the hotels’ very own midst.

Cancun, and Then Some

If beach bumming, water sports and overall paradise make you a bit restless, there are more than enough excursions to engage in once you find yourself on the sandy white beaches of Cancun. On a daily basis, seasoned guides lead eager hikers into the jungle to discover where the wild things live. Also, horseback rides are available along the coast and up into the mainland. A short ferry or plane ride away is Cozumel, Mexico’s largest Caribbean island and one of the world’s hottest spots for scuba diving, not to mention you can find a few private companies who offer swimming with dolphins. If true escape is what you’re looking for, Isla de Mujeres is your answer. Fifteen minutes from Cancun by boat, this small tropical asylum is a peaceful retreat from resort life on the mainland. Cycling is very popular around the island, as well as snorkeling and chatting up the occasional pirate that passes through. Take a peek at the mysterious stone statuettes of semi-clothed women left by the Mayans.

Cancun is clearly an easy number one choice for any beach vacation. Families, singles, couples and teens should feel at ease and at home in this Yucatan dreamland that Mexico has made into an all-encompassing, all-inclusive care free environment with the vacationer’s desires right at their fingertips! Look no further for the perfect escape, because you’ve found it when you travel to Cancun. The pictures in this post are from one of my trips to Cozumel, Mexico…

Mexico has beautiful beaches on both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean. In this article, we look at two hot spots on the east coast – Playa del Carmen and Cozumel

Playa del Carmen

With one of the prettiest beaches on the Caribbean coast, Playa del Carmen was the hidden gem of Mexico for years and years. About 10 years ago, the word got out and now Playa del Carmen is exploding. If you’re looking for solitude, this isn’t the place with cruise ships and so on packing the place during high season. On the other hand, this is definitely the place if you like a lot of “resort” in your beach vacation.

Playa del Carmen has a lot to offer its visitors. Of course, the beaches are beautiful and I highly recommend you catch the sunrise, which is some of Mother Nature’s finest work. Staying up shouldn’t be a problem since the nightlife in Playa del Carmen is plentiful.

During the day, you can loaf on the beach or head out for some diving in the clear waters of the Caribbean. Should you get tired of the beach, you can head inland for some surprisingly good quality hiking.

Cozumel

An island off the Yucatan Peninsula, Cozumel is a slice of Caribbean paradise. With smooth, crystal clear waters, Cozumel has the white beaches you see in the Corona beer commercials. On the island proper, one can loaf on the beach, pursue world class diving or take a Jeep tour of the island. Dolphin petting and sitting in the hammocks of Xal-Hal are touristy, but fun things to do. Although Cozumel is on the cruise ship circuit, it maintains the relaxed atmosphere found in smaller destinations in the Mexican Riviera.

Unfortunately, Cozumel was in the news through much of the last week of October 2005 because Hurricane Wilma pounded it for over 24 hours. Cozumel is very resilient and after just a few months was back to its normal self and still a great location to go on your next vacation.

You can also enjoy Carnival on the island of Cozumel if you choose to take your vacation in February. Check with your local travel agent or online for dates. The great thing about Carnival is this. There are dancers all over the city all day long going around putting on their own little shows and every night there is a parade. This goes on for a solid week of music and festivities that are of the finest anywhere.

Enjoy some awesome fishing in the Carribbean as well. I caught this ‘Tarpon’ during one of my visits in 2006.

During one of my different visits, I have gotten to know several of the local residents and entrepreneurs. If you know someone in Cozumel, they will have family for almost any adventure you would like to go on. My friend chartered a full day of fishing for two people for a very reasonable price that included the captain, a guide, plus lunch and refreshments. If you do not know any of the locals, don’t be alarmed all of the prices in Cozumel are very reasonable.

If you are planning a visit to the Mexican Riviera area, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel are definitely worth your consideration. Personally, I would pick Cozumel in a heartbeat. I have personally bee to Cozumel five times and I am planning another trip there in the near future.

If you are planning a vacation trip to Cancun, hop the ferry across the bay to the small finger-shaped Isla Mujeres. The name means “Island of Women” and there are a number of theories as to how the name came to be but it’s not because of the topless beach. The important thing is that it’s a great place to vacation in the sun.

On Isla Mujeres the atmosphere is much more relaxed and relatively quiet compared to Cancun or Cozumel. The number of tourists is much less than on the mainland.

The city is only about 10 blocks long and five blocks wide so don’t expect a whole lot besides the supermarket and cinema. But the natural sights are what you came for anyway.

There are accommodations to fit all budgets. Most are downtown and near the oceanfront. One of the better hotels is Posada del Mar with air-conditioned rooms overlooking the waterfront. The Cristalmar Resort and Beach Club is south of town and has a great beach, pool and modern facilities. There are a number of budget hotels but be careful because the conditions and service vary greatly from day to day.

The outlying reefs are great for diving and snorkeling. The windward side is best but only when the seas are calm. The coral rocks are quite dangerous when the water is rough. Local dive shops provide day trips out to the farther reefs for snorkeling and diving.

Charter a local boat for a deep-sea fishing trip. Grouper, barracuda, tuna and red snapper are in abundance year round while in the spring you can catch the bigger fish like dorado, tarpin, marlin and sailfish.

Every year the Club de Yates of Isla Mujeres puts on a sailing regatta near the end of April. Also, the Regatta Amigos takes place several times throughout the year. These events turn into one big party for the whole island with costumes, dancing, music, food and tequila.

At Playa Norte Beach (the previously referred to topless beach) is on the north edge of town. The water is shallow, blue and calm with cafes close by. Sailboarding and water skiing are popular as is the local three-wheeled floating “bike”. Not far away is another beautiful and quiet beach, Playa Lancheros.

On the south end of the small island is a reconstructed ancient Mayan temple. It sits on a cliff with a wonderful view over the ocean. This makes a good excuse to take a walk and see the island.

Garrafon Beach is the one spot that seems to draw the most tourists. Probably because it’s such a good spot for snorkeling. Avoid the crowds by going early. The beach has a coral reef that is perfect for beginner snorkeling and children. You can have fun actually feeding the fish. Not too far out you can get a look at some sunken cannon, an anchor and the resident angelfish.

If you go in October, don’t miss the Isla Mujeres International Music Festival. It starts on the second weekend of the month and goes for 12 days of music and dancing.

Mexican culture and artifacts are famous around the globe and hence there is no better way to enjoy and become familiar with the Mexican sprit than touring the country itself. Mexico as a tourist spot offers wide range of geographical locations and country sites for a traveler to choose. The country touches the shores of ocean at many places and has high-rise mountains at the other end. The region presents an excellent opportunity for water sports and deep-sea excursions and mountaineering.

With fabulous hotels and exotic views to offer Mexico has also developed into a favorite honeymoon destination. Recently wedded couples find numerous getaways in this country. The cities here present a promising adventurous vacation. Among the all time favorite destination is Acapulco a place that has attracted tourists since earlier times because of its rocking nightlife and beautiful beaches. Apart from regular water sports, cliff diving is an added exclusive special attraction of the place. Mainly well-trained professionals perform this art after the sun goes down and it presents a spectacular view for the tourists. With hotels having private and semi-private swimming pools to offer it has become a favorite for couples on vacation.

Another very popular spot for tourists is the Yucatan Peninsula, which is famous for its ancient ruins of Mexican architecture and traditions. The geographical location of Yucatan peninsula renders it a perfect visiting area. Although the weather at this place is inviting all year round still the tourist attraction is maximum from October to June.
Mexico is a paradise for water game lovers, sea divers, trekkers and other such activists. Apart from offering boating, rafting and cruise options for tourists, every popular travel spot also has dedicated shopping centers. The shops offer anything from Mexican folk art, handicrafts depicting Mexican culture, jewelry, pottery, shirts and many other such options to take back home as a souvenir from Mexico.

The prime religion in Mexico is mainly Catholics and this thought is well expressed by the spread of well-constructed cathedrals around the town. These cathedrals are masterpieces of architecture and exhibit a great deal about the rich cultural history of the place. While on the way through the city lanes the Christian archeological extracts are visible throughout the journey. Vacationing in Mexico with stay and sightseeing the trip may sometimes prove to be costlier than expected. Hence its best advised to preplan the visit and opt for an all included packaged journey tour in the country. The travel agents best guide tourists through most favorite hot spots among travelers and options that fit best within the budget.

Night safari through the forests of the region is an added attraction. A safari in four wheeler jeeps through the mountains can well be an experience of a lifetime. The best ways for touring the country is having a base destination at one place and then go touring other neighboring spots on short trips. Biking is another favorite activity in the region cycling through Mexico is so popular that anyone visiting this country can hardly avoid returning back without enjoying a bike-ride.

Have you ever heard someone say, “Once, when I was in Cabo….”? Cabo San Lucas, Mexico seems to get pared down to just “Cabo” by the people who love to vacation there. It is an affectionate nickname for a little piece of a desert town at the end of the Baja California peninsula that lives up to its own hype by being full of fun in the surf and sun.

When you begin to think about what activities you might expect to find on your vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, you will invariably start with the beach and ocean. Scuba diving with manta rays has become an unusual activity that could be a once in a lifetime type of encounter. Whale watching excursions are also popular and can provide a lifetime of memories to take home. And snorkeling expeditions can be exhilarating to undertake.

But what brings most visitors to Cabo San Lucas is the sport fishing industry. Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, and many other species of fish are caught year round in the waters surrounding Cabo. Fishing boats are available for charter and can cater to any whim you may have. You can tussle with these monster fish all day and be pampered with a catered meal once you’re done hauling them in.

Combining the desert, ocean, and mountains makes the Baja peninsula a beautiful and intriguing destination and provides the backdrop for many quaint villages and towns in the area that can be explored by taking day trips. Taking a drive or joining a tour to visit towns like La Paz and Todos Santos can give you a glimpse of village life in Mexico that still exists in this technological age. Exploring old church squares and local shopping areas can be a lot of fun.

Cabo San Lucas is quickly becoming the golf capital of Mexico. It has six championship courses that are very close to each other and they all share the beauty of the area. They all have ocean views and three of them have holes right on the ocean. And while you can take advantage of these great courses now you can also look forward to more courses that are now in the planning stage. So stay tuned!

If you fall so in love with Cabo San Lucas that you want to come back every year, you might want to look into getting a timeshare. Vacation ownership is a way that travelers can purchase time at a resort that they will, in essence, own however many weeks a year are purchased. This has many advantages, such as guaranteeing your same accommodations every year, allowing you to “give” your week to friends or family if you won’t be using it, or trading your week to be used at another resort(although this usually requires you to be a member of a timeshare trading cooperative).

Cabo San Lucas has earned the reputation as a “party town” especially with the unofficial endorsement of famous rock and roller Sammy Hagar, who has adopted the town and opened up his own nightclub and restaurant there. But never fear if you don’t like the all night party scene because there is plenty to do for everyone in this great vacation destination.

When determining the best time to visit Mexico for a vacation, you should keep in mind what type of weather you are hoping for, what kinds of activities or festivals you would like to participate in, and what kind of prices you are willing to pay. It may be that cost is a factor and you just want to lay around a pool all day sipping margaritas. Another vacationer may want to avoid the rainy season and fish, while yet another may want to time their vacation in order to join in on the festivities of Carnival.

As far as weather goes, the best time to visit Mexico depends on where your chosen vacation spot will be. August and September get the most rain throughout Mexico and they also coincide with hurricane season which affects both the east and west coasts. The weather during this time of year can be very hot, humid and sticky. Central Mexico is situated on a high plain, which provides cool nights even during the summer. The southern coastal areas are always warm and can be very hot in the summer. And if you are thinking of vacationing in Baja California, be aware that it is a desert that just happens to be next to the ocean. It will be hot and dry most of the year regardless of the neighboring surfs.

The winter months in most of Mexico can be quite pleasant. Most of the coastal beach cities and resorts will have daytime temperatures ranging in the 70′s and 80′s. Winter in some of the higher elevations in the middle of the country can have daytime highs anywhere from 50 degrees to anywhere in the 70′s range and nighttime lows at or below freezing.

There are literally thousands of festivals and observances all over Mexico and if there is a particular one you wish to attend, there are many websites available to get information about them. Some of the festivities are observed nationwide and can be celebrated everywhere from Cabo San Lucas to Cancun.

Carnival (or Carnaval) is celebrated five days before Ash Wednesday, usually in the first week of February. During this time parades, parties, and dancing in the streets are present everywhere and can provide great fun. Another holiday that is celebrated nationwide is Mexico’s day of independence. Cinco de Mayo is observed on May 5 every year as a celebration of the Mexican army’s defeat of the French in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla and is a great source of national pride for all of Mexico. And, of course, Christmas festivities are everywhere in this predominantly Christian country with mini-fiestas beginning in mid-December to celebrate the journey of Mary and Joseph leading up to Christmas Day.

The best time to visit Mexico for you might be when the off-season rates for lodging drop in price. August through September is cheaper in areas most affected by the rainy season. In the same way, summertime sees lower prices in many locations because of the high heat and humidity.

Before you decide on when to take a trip to Mexico, first decide what you would like to see and where you would like to go. After all, the best time to visit mainly depends on what your personal preferences may be.

While it may seem a simple question to some, what currency you should use while vacationing in Mexico is often asked and more often gotten wrong. Most people know that the national currency of Mexico is the Peso, but most assume that the American dollar works just as well, if not better. It is a common misconception that Mexican merchants and vendors see the dollar as more desirable and revered, but that is not necessarily true.

Most retailers and merchants in Mexico will politely accept American dollars, but they prefer Pesos. The exception would be in Northern Mexico and Baja where merchants happily accept dollars and there isn’t much chance to offend. You just need to make sure in these cases that you get a fair exchange rate. It is also a better deal for the tourist to use Pesos because prices are almost always less expensive when using Pesos.

You can plan ahead and use a currency exchange service before you travel, although you may find that a currency exchange at the airport might give you the best exchange rate. A good bill amount to obtain might be 500 Pesos, which would come in handy for tipping the bellman or a waiter. You can use your debit or credit card for all your other transactions and you can take along traveler’s checks for any emergency that comes along. All of your cards and travelers checks can be replaced if stolen so don’t take an inordinate amount of cash with you.

If you run low on cash you can always replenish your pocketbook at the many ATM bank machines that are prevalent in resort areas. You can cash your traveler’s checks at an exchange house or a bank, which will result in the face value of the check multiplied by that day’s rate of exchange. If the place you go tries to charge a fee for doing this, go somewhere else, as it is not common practice to levy fees or commissions for cashing traveler’s checks.

And don’t forget that friends and family will appreciate and enjoy seeing coins and currency from distant lands when you get home. Be sure to keep some Pesos to give a show and tell when you return. If you have children you will especially appreciate how much they will enjoy showing off your “booty” to their friends. And putting some of the Pesos you get while on vacation into your scrapbook or photo album will be a great reminder of all the fun you had in Mexico.

Using the currency of Mexico will not only make your cash go farther, but it will also stimulate your mind as you take in all the colorful images printed on the Pesos and immerse yourself into the culture of Mexico. Go to a currency exchange service and get a lot of different small denominations. Learning what certain everyday items cost and how little you have to spend to have a good time will only serve to better your vacation experience. Have fun!

There are so many great beach destinations in Mexico that you probably couldn’t go wrong with any of them. But there are a few that stand out and should have extra cause for consideration due to their outstanding range of amenities and services. Some of them are for those who like a laid back, relaxing beach experience and the rest are for the jet set who like to take their partying seriously.

Puerto Vallarta has been a great beach vacation spot for many years primarily because of its location on Banderas Bay. It is the largest bay in Mexico and offers wide open soft white sand beaches as well as small rock surrounded coves. This area also can provide surfers good rides with the right kind of swells. Because of the protection and the climate provided by the bay, the beaches here are relatively wide and a perfect spot to partake in activities that range in energy levels. You can do things as quiet as sun bathing, kayaking, jet skiing or Para-sailing to as busy as water-skiing, horseback riding or wind surfing. Puerto Vallarta is a well-developed tourist spot with many resorts and hotels to choose from, as well as a diverse nightlife and shopping areas.

Cancun, with miles of beaches and a nonstop party atmosphere, has been transformed from a sleepy backwater town to a luxurious vacation destination and one of Mexico’s most popular tourist attractions. The beaches on the northern side lie on Mujeres Bay and have more shallow areas for play and less wave action. Those on the southern side border the Caribbean Sea and have breezier conditions and higher waves. There are fantastic resorts all along the peninsula known as the hotel zone and, depending on where you want to be, can deliver the activities you are looking for.

An exquisite little secret known as Maroma Beach is located only 30 miles south of Cancun. This resort hideaway preserves the ecology of the 500 acres of beach and rainforest it encompasses to create a miniature paradise only a short drive away from the world’s most famous spring break location. You can immerse yourself into a world of white sand beaches, clear blue waters, and tropical vegetation while luxuriating in world-class spa services, first rate hotel accommodations, and gourmet style seafood meals.

These locations are just a few of the beautiful beaches that Mexico has to offer. You will never be disappointed if you plan your vacation to one of these gorgeous locations. But, don’t limit your thinking to only vacations. Any of these stunning beach locales can play host to your upcoming wedding, anniversary or recommitment ceremonies. The great thing about having a ceremony at one of these stunning beaches is that when you are finished with the ceremony, you won’t have to go anywhere else for the honeymoon!

Whether you are looking for a quiet seaside resort town, a rock and roll party that never stops, or a journey into a world of solitude with nature, these beach vacations in Mexico will not disappoint.

Looking for that perfect romantic getaway for your anniversary, honeymoon, recommitment ceremony, or just because? Many people, when asked where they would go for a romantic getaway think of places like Paris, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Jamaica or some other Caribbean Island, but you may be surprised at the beautiful and diverse locations for romance that Mexico can offer.

The country of Mexico can offer some of the most variety in locales. You could romance in any of their tropical beach locales to enjoy the passions that sun, sand and surf elicits. Or, you may just fall in love with the idea of experiencing an exciting and thrilling adventure in one of its historic Mayan rainforests. And just to round it out, Mexico can also offer peaceful mountainous respites to ensure unlimited time to explore nature and one another.

If you are a couple looking for a more relaxing retreat from the work-a-day world, consider running away to beautiful Mazatlan on the pacific coast. While this friendly city embraces tourism and has many fine resorts, restaurants, and activities available, Mazatlan could survive without it, which means the area has less “hype” and allows you to enjoy the city without feeling the pressure that being a tourist sometimes creates. In fact, there are many successful industries based here, such as a large commercial fishing fleet and the local brewery, which produces Pacifico Beer. All of this translates to a more laid back atmosphere and a quieter tourist scene. The food here, especially the seafood is excellent with many restaurants located right on the beach. Perfect for watching sunsets with the one you love.

If you are looking for more “action” on your romantic getaway, Cabo San Lucas is well known as a party town and can provide nonstop excitement. Located at the tip of the Baja peninsula, Cabo is Sammy Hagar’s adopted home and boasts Sammy’s own club, Cabo Wabo. There are many other places to sample libations and dance the night away, but don’t worry, there are also many quiet, romantic spots to dine at while watching the glorious sunset. Daytime activities, such as horseback riding and snorkeling, can also be a great time for just the two of you to enjoy together.

Maybe your idea of a perfect romantic getaway is being pampered and catered to in a luxurious hotel suite. There are all sorts of top-of-the-line resorts throughout Mexico and many will have packages that are meant to dazzle you with opulence and decadent service. Sleeping in a king-sized bed with views of the ocean from your balcony might set your heart aflutter. Enjoying a bubble bath with each other in your in-room Jacuzzi tub while eating strawberries might also seem like a dream come true. Ordering room service and sipping champagne while the sun sets could be the perfect end to a perfect day. In this scenario, where you are in Mexico doesn’t really matter as much as which resort can supply this aspiration of being pampered.

Because of the diversity of romantic getaways that the country of Mexico can offer, you may have trouble deciding just what type of romantic adventure to have. That’s what is wonderful about going to Mexico. You can have as much fun planning your romantic getaway to Mexico as you do enjoying it. Just make sure that wherever you go you pamper yourselves and each other.
